7th Annual Mary Diaz & William Copeland Jr. Memorial Tennis Tournament Ohio State University, July 15-17

Welcome

For the 7th year in a row, the Diaz family is hosting the Mary Diaz and William Copeland Jr. Memorial Tennis Tournament.  It promises to be a weekend of great tennis for a great cause. (Event details).

Although they did not know each other, both Mary and Bill were tennis enthusiasts who were stricken by pancreatic cancer.  Dr. Copeland was a highly regarded physician in central Ohio.  When he was not delivering babies or attending to patients, he could frequently be found on the courts around Columbus.

Mary Diaz was the director of The Women’s Commission for Refugee Women and Children in New York City.  She traveled throughout the world, advocating for social justice.  The second of five children in a “tennis family,” Mary was always up for a game with her family and friends wherever she might be.

Beneficiaries

The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is a nationwide network of people dedicated to working together to advance research, support patients and create hope for those affected by pancreatic cancer.

The Ohio State James Cancer Hospital is Ohio's only fully dedicated cancer hospital and research institute, and one of the nation's premier centers for the prevention, detection and treatment of cancer.

In its six year history, this event has raised over $300,000 to fight pancreatic cancer. Pancreatic cancer is the fourth leading cause of cancer-related death in the United States. The five-year survival rate is only 5% -- the lowest rate of all major cancers. Despite these facts, pancreatic cancer receives the least amount of federal research funding in this sector. Our support can make a difference. Please encourage your friends, colleagues, and family to give as generously as they can.
